Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide appropriate oversight of general management and staff functions in your office to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required financial data and accounting information from you and your staff
  • Work with our H.R. department to ensure that your office is complying with company policy as outlined in our Employee Handbook and that you and your managers are complying with legal requirements pertaining to employment issues
  • Make sure that safety committees are representative of all employees in the office and meet monthly per state requirements; that minutes are kept and sent to Human Resources each month; and that appropriate safety measures are taken as needed
  • Meet/exceed personal revenue targets
  • Develop new accounts and increase active client list
  • Maintain existing client base/revenue
  • Increase average income per page
  • Develop spec campaigns/proposals and plan sections
  • Maintain rate integrity
  • Revenue and expense budgeting and control
  • Meet department revenue targets
  • Maintain credit control
  • Develop sales promotions/contests
  • Weekly sales planning meetings
  • Coaching/training of sales force
  • Ensure deadlines are adhered to
  • Regular planning meetings with Editor and production staff
  • Conduct annual reviews and create employee development plans to continually encourage professional advancement of all staff.
  • Manage entire publication staff (Sales, News, Creative, Circulation)
  • Resolve conflicts/disputes
  • Strive to maintain an open door policy for staff
  • Take active part in the community and attend client/community functions/events
Essential Qualifications:
  • Experience at a management level of newspaper sales and operations
  • The ability to manage multi-faceted projects simultaneously
  • Comprehensive knowledge of newspaper’s circulation area
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, contractors, subscribers, non-subscribers, public officials and advertisers verbally and in writing
  • The ability to understand and analyze data from various sources including PBS
  • Proficient computer skills to include knowledge of Word, Excel, etc.
  • High level problem-solving skills
  • The ability to direct, mentor, coach, train and motivate staff as well as maintain a positive, productive office environment
  • The ability to plan and execute special sections and promotions
  • High pressure/stress management skills
  • The ability to enforce and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with the local & regional business communities and the strategic skills to determine how best to interface the paper within that climate
General Knowledge/Skills:
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Must possess excellent leadership and management skills
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must have advanced problem-solving skills
  • Must possess proficient computer and analytical skills and have the ability to apply those skills for business development purposes
  • Must be able to tactfully handle customer complaints
  • Must have neat and professional appearance as a representative of the company
  • Must possess proven Sales abilities and an understanding of the process of building and growing paper revenue
  • Must be trustworthy and have strong integrity and loyalty
  • Must be self-motivated and confident
  • Must be responsible and have a strong work ethic
  • Must possess positivity, energy, and enthusiasm
