The Cardiac Device Technician is responsible for coordinating the workflow of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs): pacemakers, implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators and implantable arrhythmia monitors. This person is responsible for monitoring and review of cardiac rhythms in person and from remote transmissions, retrieval and triage of that information, preparing data for entry to electronic health record, and ensuring physician evaluation with appropriate billing and follow up.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides timely feedback of cardiac device diagnostic information to physicians Nurse Practitioners/PAs and RNs.
  • Provides evaluation and programming of CIEDs under the supervision of a physician.
  • Troubleshooting complex device programming issues under the supervision of a physician
  •  Assess wounds post device implant to ensure that the incision is healing appropriately.
  • Educates patients and families regarding device function, clinic follow-up scheduling and device home monitoring.
  • Responsible for appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record of all in clinic and remote device checks.
  • Ensures correct billing and coding of device checks.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the daily schedule of all device clinics to ensure adequate clinical workflow.
  • Maintain and complete daily tasks delegated by team members within the department.
  • May be required to travel to outlying clinics as directed by the Device Clinic manager
     
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
  • Experience analyzing and reprogramming cardiac pacemaker and AICDs OR cardiac device technology certification from a recognized device training school.
  • Experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions preferred.
  • Current BLS certification preferred.
